The City’s 10-Year Downtown Revitalization Strategy aims to shape a shared vision for Hamilton's downtown core over the next 10 years, reflecting the aspirations of residents, visitors, businesses, and partners.

Why is a vibrant downtown core essential for Hamilton?

  • A vibrant downtown attracts businesses, creates jobs, and boosts local economy, tourism, and real estate development.
  • Arts, events, and entertainment foster a strong sense of community.
  • Improved access to transportation and urban development, support a greener, more connected downtown.
  • A thriving core enhances public spaces, promotes community safety, and overall quality of life.

Project Phases

Phase 1: Public Engagement

A series of engagement activities will be led to gather insights to understand community aspirations, unmet needs, and future opportunities, contributing to a vibrant downtown that supports long-term growth and a strong sense of community. This phase will also establish guiding principles that align with the community's vision.

Phase 2: Engagement with Key Partners

The project will engage key partners to develop a set of actions for the strategy that align with and support guiding principles and the vision that were identified by the public in phase 1.

Engagement Details

As part of the public engagement for this project, we will be explore:

  • The community's vision for the downtown core,
  • What community values about the downtown core, and;
  • Creative and innovative ideas for the transformation of the downtown.

We are excited for you to share your voice!

We know that sometimes, it feels like we are asking the same questions in the same way. We want to change that! We invite you to participate and share your feedback on the future of Hamilton’s Downtown Revitalization Strategy, in the way that is most comfortable for you.

Interested in participating? We encourage you to choose the activities that are best for you, including:

  • Share, like and comment on posted ideas for downtown
  • Share a story or memory of the downtown
  • If you prefer to share anonymously you can complete the survey instead of sharing on the ideas and stories tools
  • Have a question about the project, ask it on the questions tool and the project team will do it's best to get you the answer.
  • Don’t forget to take a look at the “Key Engagement Dates” to join us in in person and tell us more!
